From the Creator's Desk (John's Reflection): Rushing Towards the Deadline!

Hello Entrefluencers! I can't believe that it's nearly October already (at the time of this writing) and I'm rushing to get this newsletter ready to broadcast. My calendar over the past 90 days has been filled with lots of content creation: I finished the BSW series (just 2 bonus videos to add to the file), recorded season 4, we are midway into season 5 of The Entrefluential Life podcast (with 3 episodes already online), and I created many short informational videos that illustrate my business advisory services. I even made 100 calls to Day Care centers in my area to see if they needed bookkeeping services. No takers, but at least I got ahead of my fear of cold calling (for the moment, it feels like this will be an ongoing battle).

Frustrations: I haven't made any business advisory sales yet. 😒 (what the fudge?!) I have to remind myself that Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will this business. So, I'll just go with the flow and let the current take me where I'm destined to go - at the speed I'm destined to travel. Another frustration is asking other entrepreneurs if they want to be featured in our magazine, or get free advertising, and hearing crickets. If you gave me these opportunities, I would jump at them. What gives?

Excitements: I'm really liking how the magazine is turning out. Just this morning I took the advice from a good friend (an attorney in France, hi Anouchka!) and revamped the cover image - I think it looks more sharp, decluttered, and focused. We'll see. I'm also very excited about our podcast collaboration with the brilliant and charismatic Stephanie Blain, founder of Starlight Bookkeeping, located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. (Yes, we are international, baby!) Working with Steph has been a game changer - in just two weeks we gained 8 new followers (may seem like a small win, but it's BIG - HUGE - for us!) We're getting a lot more views and people are commenting positively about the new season.

Looking Forward: I hope to get this magazine into more hands, distribute printed copies (not just digital), get some sponsors and sell some ads. That's not too much to ask for, is it? I did come across a resource that has already been insightful by watching the free content, that's The Editor Academy by Kate Kirby (look her up on IG and YT). I can't afford to spend $1K on another course at this time - plus I am already juggling too much - but I definitely intend to take this course. If you're curous about how to start and run a magazine, this may be the resource you're looking for. (your welcome, Kate.) ;-)

Alright, enough of my banter, let's get to the main points...

Creating Issue 2: What It Really Took

Tools I used: Canva, ChatGPT, Google Docs, iPhone Pages, Canva QR code generator, KIT landing page (for subscriber opt-ins).

Time investment: Same as last time - i really need to start tracking my time investment. You know what they say, if you enjoy what you're doing, it's not work.

Workflow: Article writing -> design layout -> proofreading -> publishing -> feedback -> edits -> distribution

Lesson learned: I batched the articles and already had the template from the first issue, so i copied and edited that template.

Here's what went right - and what I'd do differently (the good, the bad, and the ugly):

  • Good - Same as before - working with Canva & ChatGPT makes this super easy. I got the two interviews kind of late in the quarter, but just in time to not panic.
  • Bad - Not getting people to participate in free advertising.
  • Ugly - only 1 signup (crickets) :-(

Next Steps: In November, I'll start production of Issue #3, find two new guests to interview, and will make outbound calls to my target audience to offer free advertising in exchange for mentions in social media to expand our reach. Looking forward, I want to print copies and pass them out at an industry convention/trade show for small business owners.

Cue the Tube | Video Replay: Attorney to Advisor Weekend Workshop

Last quarter (Q3), I created and launched a new Attorney to Advisor 3-Day Weekend Workshop and a 14-day Business Advisory Practice Bootcamp. In the video, you'll see that the 3-day workshop is designed for attorneys who want to transition into business advisors. The 14-day workshop is available for anyone interested in pursuing advisory and consulting work.

Season 5: Numbers & Narratives Edition

Strategy Behind Season 5: Bring in a female guest to share a diverse perspective and capture a new range of audience demographics (female entrepreneurs, age range 30s-40s).

Gear List: Yeti Blue Mic. Lighting: plain house lights. Recording software: Streamyard - live broadcasts across FB, YT, and LI)

Prep Process: Quick chat pre-recording with co-hosts.

Guests: N/A - No guest interviews in season 5.

Pro Tip: It would be great to have an engineer, but if you're doing all the things, then pay attention to your audio control in streamyard to play the outro track while closing out your parting thoughts script. I forgot to play it before reading my last line of script on the last episode - oops.

Creator Toolkit | Favorite Tool: Macbook Pro

My favorite tool is still my Macbook Pro, but my Iphone 13 is a close 2nd place because it's super convenient. Here's what we used this month to speed up production:

  • Canva (magazine template), Streamyard (podcast recording), and ChatGPT (copywriting).
  • For managing editorial calendars, guest outreach, & checklists, I may start to use Trello (TBD).
  • Layout: Canva Pro
  • Articles (copywriting): ChatGPT for draft development and Pages (iphone): I use Pages for writing/editing my articles from chatGPT, as well as podcast scripts, marketing posts, workbooks and ebooks.
  • Publishing: It looks like Canva upped their game on how the magazine reads - it flips left to right just like Issu, so I plan on staying right here in my Canva Pro plan.
  • For the podcast, we're recording season 5 live (see above) using Streamyard, but I need to download the audio tracks and syndicate them - any suggestions???
  • For the BSW training videos, I recorded them using Canva Presentation and posted them to YouTube.

Up next: we'll use Descript for editing, and libsyn (maybe) for podcast hosting.

DIY Tips | Want to Start a SaaS Company? Copy This Process:

Starting a SaaS Business with HighLevel.com's Agency Platform:

  1. Start with a Niche, Not the Masses. Don't try to serve "everyone." Pick a vertical - like realtors, mortgage brokers, chiropractors, or coaches - and tailor your SaaS offering to their exact pain points. HighLevel has templates you can clone and customize for specific industries.
  2. White-Lable Like a Pro. Change the logo, colors, and domain right away. Even if it's just a starter design, branding builds trust. Your clients shouldn't know (or care) that it's powered by HighLevel - they should see it as your SaaS.
  3. Build a Signature Package. Instead of selling "software access," package it as a solution. For example: "The Realtor Lead Accelerator" could include the CRM, funnel templates, text automation, and reporting dashboards - all powered by HighLevel.
  4. Use Snapshots to Save Time. HighLevel lets you create "snapshots" - pre-built workflows, pipelines, and automations - that can be installed into a new client account with one click. build a solid snapshot for your niche, then deploy it fast for every new client.
  5. Automate Your Own Onboarding. Before you bring on your first paying customer, set up your own onboarding funnel inside HighLevel. This shows professionalism and reduces support headaches.
    • Welcome email with login credentials
    • Quick-start video tutorial
    • Appointment link for a strategy call
  6. Price for Value, Not Just Access. Don't race to the bottom with cheap pricing. Position your SaaS as an ROI toool, not an expense. Consider tiered plans (Starter, Growth, Pro) and bundle extra services like consulting or ad management at higher tiers.
  7. Use Your Own System to Sell Your System. Run ads, capture leads, and nurture prospects through your HighLevel CRM. This not only gets you clients, it demonstrates that your software actually works.
  8. Focus on Retention with Ongoing Wins. The biggest SaaS killer is churn. Keep customers excited by:
    • Sending monthly "success reports" (HighLevel does this automatically)
    • Hosting short "how-to" webinars
    • Dropping new funnel templates as value-adds
  9. Outsource Support Early. Don't burn out answering every small question. Use HighLevel's support resources, create a knowledge base, or hire a VA to handle FAQs so you can focus on growth.
  10. Scale with Referrals & Partnerships. Once you have results for one niche, partner with influencers, agencies, or associations in that industry. A single JV deal can bring dozens of SaaS clients onboard.

Small steps compound into big results!

The Informed Entrefluencer

Building a business is difficult, especially when trying to balance a healthy home and work life. Most small business owners are feeling the weight of the daily grind, and many new business owners fail within the first five years. Very few small business owners discover on their own how to go from working "in the biz" to working "on the biz" to working "above the biz," and while the internet is loaded with tons of content, it's easy to get lost in analysis paralysis, so it's no wonder why the failure rate is so high. This leads to mental and physical fatigue and eventually burnout. That's why we decided to combat this issue using a holistic approach using what we call our morning 3M routine: meditation, mindset, and movement. We find that starting your day right makes all the difference! It looks like this: wake up, turn on your favorite meditation background music (we like the Solfeggio frequencies by Inner Lotus Music on YouTube). Open your journal and track what's happening in your life. Read a daily spiritual message (we like Today's Turning Point by Dr. David Jeremiah email subscription) and reflect on how to apply the scripture (uplifting message) to your life. Next, write down a positive affirmation to get your mindset right. When we are thinking positive, we get positive back from the environment (the law of attraction). Finally, start exercising! I recently watched a video where the speaker said if you exercise 30 minutes a day, it adds up to 2.5 hours a week, or 10 hours a month - that's a lot of fitness! The results will catch up to you in such a positive way that your future self will be thanking you forever! Applying the 3M system to your morning routine is just the beginning of making productive changes from the inside out. At The Entrefluential Life, my son Sebastian and I (John) provide personal (physical, mental, and spiritual wellness tips) and professional development training for entrepreneurs and influencers who want to make a positive impact in the world. We do this by sharing lots of good stuff with you (that we are using ourselves, btw) in our quarterly newsletters, weekly blogs and training videos, and daily social media posts.
